Taproot

When time branches away and promises sway in the breeze
When wars uproot and lovers leave I will stay and be your giving tree
I will stand over you when you lay down
I'll sink my toes into the ground beneath you

Cradle and sleep you in my shade

Wherever you wander
As long as you thirst
I will hold the deepest
I grew here first
I am your taproot

I will drink the sun’s burn and drizzle it over your lips
I’ll give you my skin to turn between your fingertips
I will catch the wind and whisper it to you
If you listen it says everything you already knew

Don't you be afraid

Wherever you wander
As long as you thirst
I will hold the deepest
I knew you first
I am your taproot
